Gradings

A karate grading is an exciting opportunity for students to showcase their progress and earn their next belt on their martial arts journey.

At Chase Wado Kai members have the opportunity to grade up to three times each year in March, July and November.

Grading Requirements

Grading Workshops

Grading workshops take place on the first Friday of each month at our Cheslyn Hay class.

Here you will have the opportunity to review the techniques, combinations and kata for your next grading.

Each belt has a minimum number of workshops that the student must complete before being allowed to grade.

Time

As you progress along your martial arts journey the length of time between grades increases.

Check the syllabus for each belt for the length of time that must pass before being allowed to grade.

Sparring Sessions

Sparring sessions take place most Sundays at Cheslyn Hay.

These sessions allow students to practice techniques in a controlled and supervised environment.

Each belt has a minimum number of sparring sessions that the student must attend before being allowed to grade.

Pre Grade

Before each grading students have the opportunity to attend a 'mock grading' during their usual class.

This will determine if the student has attained the required standard for the next grade.

Only those students that meet the set standards will be allowed to grade. Everyone learns at a different pace so those students not passing the pre grade will be given feedback on which areas need practice before the next grading.

All students must:

  • Have an up to date licence in order to grade. Students must ensure that this is place prior to the date of the grading.

  • Ensure that all workshops and sparring sessions are entered into their licence books on the day of  the session by an authorised instructor.

If you have not met the criteria then you cannot grade.

If a student fails their grading then they may retake it free of charge once only.
