Gordon Watt
Club Co-Founder
Gordon, along with Dave Jillings, was the co-founder of Chase Sport Karate clubs, which later became Chase Wado Kai. Gordon was responsible for much of the administration and worked closely with Dave to develop many of the systems that we still use today, including our grading syllabus - the standards by which the quality of karate is measured for all of our students.
Gordon was an avid Kata fan and his achievements included team gold and individual bronze medals at a variety of championships including the 2002 World Championships held in Birmingham. He was also a keen and experienced official and held the position of EWSKA Chief Referee, developed the current WKO rules, as well as regularly officiating at numerous World and European events. He was a memorable teller of tales and would frequently have people in stitches with his quick wit and anecdotes.
Gordon passed away on 25th May 2006, just short of his 50th birthday. He is missed by all who knew him within Chase Wado Kai and as a tribute befitting such a great man, the CWK World Championship Squad of 2007 dedicated their fantastic achievements to his memory.
